Results of the Pokémon Direct – Pokkén Coming to Nintendo Switch and More

Well, the Pokémon Direct is done, and have to say, I’m a little let down. It’s probably my own fault for getting my hopes up, but we won’t be getting a traditional full fledged for the Nintendo Switch after all. You can see the full direct below, fast forward to the last 8 minutes to see the actual stream.

What we’ll be getting is Pokkén Tournament DX. Nintendo showcased a trailer on the Pokémon Direct. It will be released September 22nd this year. I didn’t see much in the way of new features, so it looks like a pretty straightforward port. I was kind of expecting Pokkén to be brought over to the Switch. I’m happy about it, I missed out on it for the Wii U, and it seems like a fun unique game, so will probably give it a whirl when it’s out. Some screens for your viewing pleasure

UPDATE – 2017/06/07 : Turns out after a bit of research, we will be getting 5 new playable Pokémon. That being Scizor, Croagunk, Empoleon, Darkrai, and Decidueye. The first 4 were available in the arcade version of the game but not in the Wii U version. The 5th Pokémon will be a new entry to the game overall. There will also be a few new modes included. Team matches will allow you to play with multiple Pokémon that you can switch between during matches. Also, there will be daily challenges and a ranked mode for online play.

It was widely believed we would be getting Pokémon Stars, the highly rumoured and anticipated traditional full fledged Pokémon console game for the Switch, but sadly this wasn’t the case. Instead we are getting Pokémon Ultra Moon and Ultra Sun for the Nintendo 3DS on November 17th this year. They will feature an alternate story line, along with some new Pokémon. More screens below.

Lastly, Pokémon Gold and Silver will be brought over the the 3DS virtual console. These will also launch on the same day as Pokkén Tournament DX on September 22nd on the 3DS eshop and will be compatible with the Pokémon Bank.
